In a 2:1 vote, National Trust members have overwhelmingly voted to permanently ban hunts from ‘trail hunting’ on NT land. This comes after the expose by the Hunt Saboteurs Association last November 2020, of a series of webinars hosted by the Hunting Office which told their hunt members how to use trail hunting as a ‘smokescreen’ for illegal hunting. Since then many of the large landowners, including the National Trust, have suspended trail hunting licences whilst a criminal enquiry took place.
We now call on the National Trust to confirm that they will listen to the calls of their members to ban this practice for good.
‘Members supported a motion not to allow the activity on trust land, with those who proposed it stating that “overwhelming evidence leads to the conclusion that ‘trail hunting’ is a cover for hunting with dogs”.’
‘A total of 76,816 votes were cast for the motion, with 38,184 votes against and 18,047 abstentions.’
